It was October 2010

Detroit was going through a lot, but the city was on the verge of a major rebirth. An unmistakable energy and optimism for the future of the city had taken hold and it was this excitement that was the driving force behind the concept of The Detroit Shoppe. All of us are Detroit … bonded by our past, fueled by the grit and determination of today, and driven by a vision and hope for the future. And with that, The Detroit Shoppe came to life as a pop-up at Somerset Collection for the 2010 holiday season to celebrate the people, places and products of our great city while donating 100% of all proceeds back to Detroit charities.

Fast forward to March 2011

The response to our mission was so overwhelmingly positive during our 12-week pop-up that we now become a permanent fixture not only at Somerset Collection, but also in downtown Detroit, with our current location in the historic Metropolitan Building and Element Detroit Hotel.

Hitting a milestone in September 2020

In honor of our 10-year anniversary, we expanded our Somerset Collection store to include the 50’s style Detroit Shoppe Diner which celebrates all of Detroit’s iconic food as well as its modern-day culinary scene.

As a part-museum-and-part-retail shop, and now part diner, the Detroit Shoppe sells and supports Detroit’s favorite brands and institutions, from Better Made and Faygo to the DIA, Pewabic Pottery and Motown Museum. Every year, throughout the year, Detroit Shoppe hosts a variety of events all in celebration of the history and love for the Motor City, including book signings by local authors, musical performances, restaurant pop-ups, food tastings, animal adoption events, meet and-greet opportunities with local athletes and celebrities and much more!

We are now 15 years in!

We have been non-profit since day one and to-date have given back more than $5 million to Detroit charities and institutions along with the surrounding communities. We have never wavered from our mission to support and give back to the city that has given us all so much … and we never will.

Thank you all so much for your continued support over these past 15 years and we are excited to continue our mission with all of you!
